Weathering masters - Part #1

First of all, I have to make clear that I'm a long time enthusiast of weathered models but because of some quite odd reasons, I've never tried it on small scale kits. In fact, all the weathering that I've ever done was on 1:1 full metal airsoft guns, to make them look like they have seen combat in the desert. Said that, this is not a technical article but a much more artistic purpose display of some awesome projects that I came through on a couple of Facebook groups that, in my opinion, can be an inspiration for everyone in the hobby.

I'll break this post in three or more, just because of the article's attachments limit. In fact, I think I'll keep posting great work done by amazing people in the hobby. These guys are artists, definitely, and I can't get enough of this.

So, welcome and join me in this world of time/weather-worn scale-wonders.

1 - MaxxPro Bronco, scale 1:35th - by Slava Shatsky.

I've started by the Bronco just because I'm terribly fond of Huskys, Broncos, Humvees and all those kinds of military wheeled armored vehicles.

This is such an amazing job from the Russian artist Slava Shatsky and you can check him up on Facebook (@slava.shatsky.5) and youtube.

It's perfect and the weathering feels so natural, scale-wise, that with the right camera angle and background you couldn't tell her from the real one.

That's a FIVE stars!

2 - '66 VW Karmann-Ghia, scale 1:24th - by Doozy Modelworks

The second kind of weathering that makes it shine to me is when artists give models a personality and this is huge on that Karmann-Ghia. It's as if it has a history behind the kit and tiny people kind of live on this art-bench, taking this cool car for some adventurous ride once and a while. Adding small props and livery personalization takes this "make-believe" weathering project to a higher level.

Yasu Okugawa is a master-modeler and you can check "Doozy's" Facebook (Doozy Modelworks), YouTube and Pinterest all over the internet.

This is also a FIVE stars! Incredible.

3 - IDF M-113, scale 1:35th (I guess) - by Robert Howarton

This one, kinds of mix those elements. I mean, it's not wheeled but it's military, armored, she tells a story, and it's weathered all over. This is one of those finished models that I'd love to see in person and get that weird feeling when you're looking at such a realistic model that your eyes fight your brains to make you understand that it's a static scale model. And that's what makes weathering artists, genius, to me. Robert is from US/Texas and you can catch up with him at his Facebook (@rhowarton). FIVE stars!! Really nice!

For the sake of putting everybody on the same page, non-modelers especially... weathering is the action of the weather conditions in altering the color, texture, composition, or form of exposed objects. These guys are masters in reproducing those nature effects on scale models, in short, weathering.

That's it for this article. I'll try to post other cool artists every week and I hope you guys enjoy the reading and the pictures. If any artist dislikes being displayed here at "Weathering Channel", please, feel free to contact me at Facebook (@marceloglielmo78) and I'll remove it. If that's the case, please accept my apologies, in advance.

This is not a descending order list of any kind. It's just a list of great projects of talented modelers that I admire and wanted to share.

BTW, create your free account here and subscribe to this on the desktop. You'll get the notifications about my new postings.

Thanks a lot and stay safe! We catch up really soon.
